In ottobre Hisashi Moriguchi - foto nei giorni in cui per la stampa giapponese era un eroe nazionale - ammetteva di essersi inventato, oltre al curriculum, trapianti terapeutici di cellule staminali indotte, mai avvenuti, che avevano salvato pazienti terminali, mai ricoverati, in un ospedale di Boston e i suoi paper erano ritrattati. Ora Daniel Cyranoski, il direttore di Nature-Giappone, scrive:
Moriguchi has not rested on his laurels since then.
He has three papers in the last two months in the peer-reviewed medical journal BMJ Case Reports. In one, published online on 18 April, he claims to have supercooled oocytes to preserve eggs from cancer patient’s ovaries, so that the patients can later use them for in vitro fertilization. That paper, judging from the abstract which has almost identical wording, seems to be a plagiarized version of a paper he retracted last fall.
In a second paper, published online on 2 May, he again claims to have used iPS cells to defeat disease — this time, liver cancer... In a third paper, published online on 24 May and reminiscent of last year’s controversial announcements, he claims to have transplanted iPS cell-derived cardiac cells into a heart failure patient.
In all three, he is the corresponding author. In all three, the other author is Joren Madson, whose affiliation is given as Boston-based Reprogramming, Inc. Nature has not been able to confirm the existence of a company called Reprogramming, Inc., in Boston or of a researcher name Joren Madson.

Per dati falsi, GlaxoSmithKline ha chiesto a Nature Medicine di ritrattare il paper di ricercatori - direttore compreso, non nuovo a "infrazioni" gravi - della sua succursale di Shanghai; ha anche licenziato il direttore; sospeso altri ricercatori; chiuso la ricerca e interrotto un trial clinico su interleuchina-7 e sclerosi multipla. Centinaia di milioni buttati via.
Un giovane si è dimesso dicendo che si tratta di un suo errore in buona fede; l'ex-direttore, furente, dice che è responsabile dell'incidente, ma non colpevole.
